Carrot Zino
Approximate root length: 12 inches.
The carrot illustrated was grown from T&M's seed by Mr. Alfred Howcroft of Huddersfield to weigh 71b 11½oz beating the world record by 6½oz and thus achieving a place in the Guinness Book of Records. Zino, although large retains its flavour and juiciness, produces approximately 55% juice and is a fine main crop carrot.
Sowing:
Carrots prefer a deep, rich well drained soil which does not contain fresh manure or compost. Sow spring as soon as the soil can be worked to mid summer in drills ½in deep, spaced 12in apart. Make sure the seed bed doesn't dry out.
Growing:
As soon as the seedlings are large enough to handle, start thinning them out so they are finally 6in apart. The last thinnings should provide tender roots just large enough to be used. Harvest late summer and fall.
