An extremely handsome, early variety producing compact, dwarf, solid round heads of glowing rose pink, surrounded by a frill of slightly wavy outer leaves. Ornamental cabbages are excellent for spectacular displays of late Fall and early winter color when little else is available. They produce their strongest colors once the temperature drops and are ideal for bedding, window boxes, growing in 4-6 inch pots etc. Can also make spectacular winter floral arrangements. Height: 9 inches.
Sowing:
Sow in spring 1/16 inch deep in a good seed compost. Germination usually takes 14-21 days at 68F. Outdoor sowings can be made in a seed bed, sow thinly 1/4 inch deep in rows 12 inches apart and transplant when large enough to handle.
Growing:
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow cool and well ventilated. Gradually acclimatize to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out 14-16 inches apart in a sunny spot. Water in well after transplanting.
Aftercare:
The leaves begin to color when night temperatures fall below 50F.
