- California Poppy Buttermilk
- An exquisite variety with masses of creamy-white fluted flowers above fine, blue-green foliage. Very hardy and easy to grow, making excellent, if short lived, cut flowers.
Height: 8-10 inches; Type/hardiness: Hardy Annual; Prefers full sun; Flowers: Summer
- Sowing:
- Sow from February to March 1/1 6inch deep in a good seed compost. Germination takes 5-10 days at 65-70F. They can also be sown outdoors from March to May where they are to flower, when the ground becomes workable, covering the seed to a depth of 1/8 inch. Thin out the seedlings 12 inches apart. A fall sowing can also be made out of doors in September for overwintering, when they will flower in late spring /early summer.
- Growing:
- When large enough to handle transplant the seedlings to boxes or 3 inch pots, and grow on in cooler conditions. Gradually acclimatize to outdoor conditions and plant out in late spring after all risk of frost has passed 12 inches apart in full sun and well drained soil.
