- Baby Blue Eyes Pennie Black
- Here is an annual that's "as pretty as a picture". There is an incessant parade of sumptuous rich deep purple to black flowers with - the master touch - a scalloped silvery-white edge. It has truly ground hugging habit (not unlike annual alyssum) that will provide ground cover and contrast for all containers, hanging baskets, and it makes a tidy edging plant. Trailing: 2-4 inches. Height: 12-15 inches.
Height: 4 inches; Type/hardiness: Hardy Annual; Prefers sun or part shade; Flowers: Summer
- Sowing:
- Sow early spring outdoors where they are to flower. Prepare the ground well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing. Sow 1/16 inch deep in rows 6 inches apart. Germination usually takes approximately 21 days.
A fall sowing outdoors will provide earlier flowers and in a coldframe will produce spring flowering pot plants in the cold greenhouse.
- Growing:
- When large enough to handle thin out to 6 inches apart. They prefer a site with part shade or a sunny position that does not dry out.
