- Onion Texas Yellow Grano
- A fall-sown onion with large, globular bulbs with straw yellow flesh, giving a mild and sweet flavor. Good garden variety with good bolting resistance as well as impressive tolerance to pink root. This is a short day onion that is best grown in Southern US. Not suitable for long term storage.
Type/hardiness: Vegetable; Cropping in 175 Days
- Sowing:
- Sow September to October into well raked soil where the plants are to be cropped. Make succesional sowings, ½inch deep in drills 18 inches apart.
Can also be sown indoors, sow on the surface of a good free draining, seed sowing mix. Do not cover seed. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a plastic bag and place at 68-77F until after germination which takes 4-10 days. Do not exclude light. Transplant when large enough to handle into trays or pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for 10-15 days before planting out.
- Growing:
- Thin seedlings to 9 inches apart when large enough to handle.
- Aftercare:
- Prefers a rich, moist, well drained soil in full sun.
