- Broccoli : Early Sprouting Rudolph
One of the earliest, producing tasty large spears. If you live in a colder climate then you can still expect early harvests from mid February.
- Sowing:
- For indoor sown seed: Grow on cool and in good light - do not let the plants get pot-bound! As the first true leaves appear, feed weekly with dilute solutions of fertilizer. Gradually acclimatize to outdoor conditions and set out up to 3 weeks prior to the last frost date. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors from spring through early summer in rows 2 feet apart.
- Growing:
When the seedlings have four or five leaves, transplant to their final quarters 30x30in apart. They will grow in most soils but must be planted firmly. Water well until they become established. Harvest in January/mid February by snapping off the flowering shoots before the flowers open. Don't remove the large leaves as these will protect the next batch of shoots.
- Aftercare:
To avoid the danger of Clubroot grow your Brassicas in a different site each year so that they only occupy the same spot once in four years.
