- Amaranthus Golden Giant
- Stately annual for back border or centerpiece to bedding displays. Erect and pendulous, large golden brown tassels over a long period of time.
Height: 48 inches; Type/hardiness: Half-hardy Annual; Prefers full sun; Flowers: Summer
- Sowing:
- Sow from February to March indoors 1/16 inch deep in a good seed compost. Germination usually takes 5-14 days at 70-75F. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into boxes or 3 inch pots and grow in cooler conditions.
They can also be sown outdoors where they are to flower during May once the soil has warmed. Keep moist until after germination and thin out to 12-18 inches apart.
- Growing:
- Gradually acclimatize to out-door conditions for 10-15 days before planting out, after all risk of frost, 18-24 inches apart in a sunny spot.
- Aftercare:
- The cut flowers last well in water and can also be dried. If this is done carefully the flowers keep their colour for some time. For pot plants provide a humid atmosphere.
